Japan: Vietnam's largest seafood consumption market in November 2022

Overcoming the US and China, Japan continued to become Vietnam's largest seafood consumption market in November with a turnover of $151 million, up 11% over the same period in 2021.


Agency of Foreign Trade (Ministry of Industry and Trade) cited data from the General Department of Vietnam Customs showing that in November, Vietnam's seafood exports reached $789 million, down 13% compared to October and down 13% compared to November 2021. Accumulating 11 months, Vietnam's seafood exports reached $10.2 billion, up 27% over the same period in 2021, the record high of the seafood industry so far.


In November, Japan continued to be Vietnam's largest seafood export market with a turnover of $151 million, down 6% compared to October but up 11% compared to November 2021.


Generally, in 11 months, seafood exports to Japan reached nearly $1.6 billion, up 30% over the same period in 2021, ranking second after the US.

China is Vietnam's second largest seafood export market in November with a turnover of $127 million, down 10% compared to October but up 6% compared to November 2021. Generally, in the first 11 months of the year, seafood export turnover to China reached nearly $1.5 billion, up 71% over the same period in 2021.


Seafood exports to the US dropped sharply, falling to the third largest seafood export market of Vietnam in November with a turnover of $118 million, down 22% compared to October and 40% compared to November 2021. In the first 11 months of the year, seafood exports to the US market still increased by 9% compared to the same period in 2021, reaching 2 billion USD.


In November, except for Japan and China, seafood export turnover to major markets decreased compared to October 2022 and the whole month of November 2021 such as the US, Korea, Canada, Australia, Thailand, UK, Netherlands, and Germany.
