Khanh Hoa: exports hundreds of tons of lobster daily

Since the Chinese Government allowed the opening of a border gate at the northern border, Khanh Hoa's lobster exports to this market have been active, with hundreds of tons of lobsters being purchased every day.

On January 11, a trader specializing in purchasing lobsters for export to the Chinese market, in Cam Ranh city, Khanh Hoa province said that China's opening of the border gate helps enterprises to export agricultural and aquatic products; in which live lobster products to this market have been active in the past 2 days.

Mr. Nguyen Trong Chanh, Director of Khanh Hoa Fisheries Sub-Department, said that due to the proximity of the Lunar New Year, consumption demand increased, businesses received many orders from China, thereby boosting purchasing lobster to supply.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Dung, a lobster farmer and collector in Cam Binh commune, Cam Ranh city, before the Chinese government started opening from January 8, lobster consumption was slow, the purchase price at rafts only ranges from 680,000 - 700,000 VND/kg type 3 fish/kg (green shrimp).

However, in recent days, the price of purchased shrimp has continuously increased and by the morning of January 11 was at 800,000 VND/kg (type 3 shrimp/kg), an increase of more than 100,000 VND/kg compared to the previous week.

For lobster, it is also up to 1-1.2 million VND/kg, an increase of about 150,000 VND/kg compared to a few days ago. Particularly, Mr. Nguyen Dung's family, every day sells 1-2 tons to companies buying lobsters in Cam Ranh city.

According to the Agriculture Department of Cam Ranh city, the locality is known as the "capital" of blue lobster farming in Khanh Hoa province, these days traders continuously send ships to Binh Ba and Binh Hung islands (Cam Binh commune) buy lobster.

Meanwhile, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Huy, a shrimp farmer and also a lobster collector in Cam Binh commune, said that in Binh Ba island alone, there are 6-7 boats to buy shrimp from farmers every day. On average, each boat buys about 1.5 tons of commercial shrimp. However, in Binh Ba island, the price of purchased shrimp is only 780,000 VND/kg, about 20,000 VND/kg lower than in the nearshore area due to transportation costs.

According to a lobster farmer in Cam Binh commune, the Chinese government's permission to reopen the import of goods on this occasion makes lobster farmers very excited because the product is being purchased and consumed.

Currently, the purchase of lobsters in Cam Binh commune depends on the decision of traders because many households sell at the same time at the same time. Therefore, many people have to wait for traders to arrange a schedule to go to the raft to catch shrimp. Cam Binh commune currently has more than 400 rafts, with 15,000 cages, mainly blue lobster farming, with a total output of 300-350 tons/year.
