[VI] STEEL INDUSTRY REPORT - OCTOBER 2024

SUMMARY

In Q3/2024, the entire industry continued to experience positive growth in both production and consumption.

  • Q3 production reached a record high, increasing by 16% compared to the same period last year, and rose an additional 10% from Q2. The average capacity across the sector is estimated at 72.9%.

  • Export volume increased by 22% year-on-year, reaching the highest level since Q4/2021. The main growth drivers were the US, India, and Brazil markets.

However, there are some notable points: Domestic sales in Q3 decreased compared to Q2, and decreased in most product lines except for cold-rolled steel. Competitive pressure on the prices of finished steel in the domestic market is becoming increasingly fierce, particularly in the context of a flood of cheap imported steel. Exports to several major markets saw significant declines in Q3.
